Delays and Resumptions

From smashbros.com today:

"I’ll make it so you’ll somehow be allowed to fight the bosses even after you’ve already cleared the game, so it’s OK if you don’t hunt all these trophies down in the first battle."

Super Smash Brothers Brawl is due out in under two months, and you're implying that you're still not done designing and coding the basics? Shouldn't this game be in its final testing stage by now? Good grief! December 2008 release: here we come!

Speaking of things that never get done:

Boston's $14.8B Big Dig finally complete

BOSTON - When the clock runs out on 2007,
Boston will quietly mark the end of one of the most tumultuous eras in the city's history: The Big Dig, the nation's most complex and costliest highway project, will officially come to an end.

Haha! And apparently pigs can fly, too.

An update on the dog situation: Mom took Vesper to the veterinarian today. His advice was to keep the two separated and slowly have them get reacquainted again. This process could take a few weeks--isn't that grand? But I'm already completely sick of it. Gypsy is fine but Vesper won't let her get too close without growling and barking. Has she forgotten who was here first? The parents and sister are out right now, and it was complete hell to feed them and let them out twice WITHOUT having them interact; it felt like a real-life version of that old brainteaser involving the farmer, wolf, goat and vegetable trying to cross the river. Somehow, though, I managed to get them both calm at the moment (Gypsy's asleep in my room and Vesper is laying down in the hallway outside). Now if only they could behave this way without a wall between them...

The baseball front has finally realized that it is indeed the offseason and has quieted down accordingly. The big news of the day (hell, of the week) deals with someone coming off of his own delay: Mark Prior signed a one-year deal with the Padres. Now, IF he stays healthy and IF he returns to form, the Friars will have a one-two-three of Peavy, Young, and Prior. That's nothing to shake a stick at. But it's also dependent on two too many ifs, and the entire plan could blow up in their faces. At least they're only paying him a base $1M.

In closing, you gotta love Buster Olney and ESPN! His report on the Prior deal ends as follows:

"In 2003, Prior nearly pitched the Cubs to their first World Series appearance since 1945. He took a 3-0 lead into the eighth inning against Florida in Game 6 of the NL Championship Series before the Marlins rallied for eight runs and an 8-3 victory at Wrigley Field.

Florida also won Game 7 in Chicago and went on to beat the New York Yankees in the World Series."

Thanks for that completely relevant sidenote, Buster. We appreciate it.
