"Trounce" is such a good word, isn't it? Andy was dandy (6IP, 5H, 1ER, 7K), and so was the offense. That is, the offense led by a 3-for-4 Robinson Cano who drove in three with a game-tying homer in the 4th. And after that the bats did the rest of the work: the Yanks took the lead in the 4th and then put up a 4-spot in the sixth and a 3-spot in the eight. The funniest part was that Craig Hansen clearly retaliated for yesterday's action by beaming Arod (2-3 on the day) with a fastball to the shoulder...but also loaded the the bases in the process before walking in Giambi and then getting smacked around by Cano with his 2-run double. If you're gonna go for payback, make sure you can get out of the jam!
The Yanks are one of the hottest teams in baseball now; aside from the streak, the proof is that they just won a series at the Fens. Tomorrow they go for the sweep behind Sidney Ponson against Jon Lester. Although the matchup is easily in Boston's favor, the Yanks do score 1000 runs for Ponson, so we'll have to see what happens.
Also: the Sox bullpen is currently not October calibre. When you see the stark differences between the 2007 and 2008 teams, it makes what the late-90s Yankees did seem that much more incredible.
(And can't forget this gem from Tim McCarver: "Dustin Pedroia's only 5'8", but in his heart he's 6'9"!" Seriously?)
