Have you Heard?

So out of 14 things on my to-do list for this weekend, I've so far accomplished three. >_< This is because yesterday sorta spiraled out of control. What began as a potentially productive day turned into one filled with Katamari (thanks to Coblenz), Ubuntu (thanks to SGBermack), and very little progress on anything. Dammit dammit dammit. That means I have to buckle down right now, right?

One good thing that managed to come out of yesterday (aside from a multitude of Quotes of the Day) was that I finally got to see Gladiator! I know I'm behind the times on this one, but it was really really good. The worst part was me realizing that Klaus Badelt is COMPLETELY unoriginal for using the exact same main theme for Pirates of the Carribbean. That's obnoxious. Well, at least Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix were amazing.

So have you heard the news?! J.K. Rowling revealed, in her most recent post-series dicussion, that Albus Dumbledore is GAY. Oh no! Heaven forbid we find out this fact about his personal life that had NO impact on the storyline whatsoever! Rowling should be ASHAMED for filling her once-beloved novels with this smut. How dare she teach children that gay people can be heroes, too! If you didn't think this series was satanic before, I don't see how you can have any doubt now.

But really now. Who cares. If anything, this is a testament to her writing ability: she has these characters defined so well that she can answer everything about them, even relating to the smallest details (in this case, who Dumbledore loved.) I like the note about how one of the movie directors wanted to make a scene in which Albus hinted at having a female crush, and Jo had to step in and tell him the truth, haha. But any way, it kind of makes sense. All those great minds--Socrates, Aristotle, Da Vinci, Newton (?), Alexander the Great--were gay (or at least bi). Since Rowling pulls a lot from history, it follows that she'd extend this "motif" to Dumbledore.

What drives me insane is the outcry over this; it shows how bigoted people of all ages can be. If your opinion of the entire series is shaken by this one insignificant fact, you really shouldn't be reading, or hell, living in the real world. Because for god's sake--Albus Dumbledore is a FICTIONAL CHARACTER. If you react this strongly to a literary entity being homosexual, then how the hell will you treat gays in real life? It's a scary thought.

Much less scary is the potential fate of the Republican Party for 2008. Its presidential nominees spoke in front of all of the major Christan Right leaders yesterday. Giuliani, the frontrunner, told some lies about how conservative he is etc. in order to win the favors of this interest group. Although he apparently calmed some nerves, some evangelicals are STILL considering putting their support behind a third-party candidate.

Hahahahahaahaha.

Are they for real? Do they realize that if they leave the main party, they guarantee a loss in their precious crusade for "values" (a.k.a. bigotry and intolerance)? The idiocy of this blows my mind. I mean, in a two party system, convergence increases your chances of winning while divergence definitely kills it. Fine, whine about Rudy supporting a woman's right to choose. Go out and endorse some guy who's too radical for the general public. Ensure that a democrat will be in the White House in 2008. Then I'll gladly watch you fade away as all of your pawns in the Bush Administration lose their jobs and the voice of the Christian Right returns to the backcountries from whence it came. I like the sound of that!

But really. If they had any political scientists on their side, they'd know that...oh wait. My bad. This interest group doesn't believe in science, hehheh. That explains everything.

On a related note, it's interesting to see the Democrats converging to Hillary. But more on that tomorrow.
